The Story Behind the Lather
Ingram’s started in 1903 when a Birmingham chemist got tired of watching men walk out of barbershops with razor burn and dry, irritated skin. The fancy creams of the day were all fragrance and no function. The cheap ones were barely a step up from soap. So he did what any stubborn craftsman would do — he made his own.
What came out of that back-room workshop was a shaving cream that actually worked. Rich enough to soften even the coarsest stubble, gentle enough that you didn’t need a separate balm afterward. Barbers started asking for it by name. Their customers started asking where to buy it. Word spread the way it did back then — slowly, through trust, one good shave at a time.
Four generations later, we’re still making Ingram’s the same way. Same base formula. Same slow-mixing process that takes three times longer than the industrial method. We’ve never chased trends or repackaged the same product with a new scent every season. We just keep making a shaving cream that does exactly what it’s supposed to do — give you a clean, comfortable shave without the fuss. Your grandfather would recognize the jar. He’d probably recognize the smell, too.
